ENEX History Highlights

Highlights from Endurance Exploration’s history starting with the Endurance Expedition of 3308.

The mission patch for the 171-day Endurance Expedition 3308

Endurance Exploration has its roots in an exploration trip called the Endurance Expedition that took place during the summer of 3308. The exploration journey took fleet carriers to Colonia, Sagittarius A, and Beagle Point on a 171-day adventure. A squadron was formed during that trip that continues to recruit CMDRS, new or veteran, interested in joining a friendly and active squadron.

The Start of the Journey

After the Endurance Expedition ended, thoughts turned to the future of the Elite Dangerous galaxy and Endurance Exploration’s place in it. The CMDRs who took part in the expedition thoroughly enjoyed the 171-day journey to Colonia, Sagittarius A*, and Beagle Point. It was challenging, and fun, and, most importantly, new friends were made along the way. To keep the Endurance Expedition community going CMDRs Campbell, Dim3bar, Hatch and FiL decided to form a squadron called Endurance Exploration.

The Name

The Endurance name came about (CMDR Dim3bar’s suggestion) from the 2022 discovery of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton’s ship ‘Endurance’ which sank in 1915. The ship became trapped in pack ice and was slowly crushed before the shore parties could be landed.

The crew escaped by camping on the sea ice until it disintegrated, then by launching the lifeboats to reach Elephant Island and ultimately South Georgia Island, a stormy ocean voyage of 720 nautical miles (1,330 km; 830 mi).

The ship was found again in March 2022 located 3km (10,000ft) down at the bottom of the Weddell Sea. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-60662541

The Battle of Hammond Combat Report

Battle of Hammond 01 NOV 3308 2022

CMDR FIL WAV

November 3308

It is the last day of the war against the consortium. We are dominating the ground, the skies, and contested space throughout the entire system. In a bold attempt to clean out the consortium in 4 days, we pushed back the enemy and fought them on their turf. Hammond Horticulture Base. All seemed normal upon entry but then suddenly I noticed my HUD had been hacked by the enemy!

No longer could I differentiate between friend and foe in my HUD. Luckily I had my squad there to lean on and things began to get better …for a time… Wave after wave of consortium ground-men pursued, faster than we’d ever seen. Rockets and gunfire chaos, protect the SRV, where is the ammo, and contorted bodies on the ceiling.

It lasted for what seemed like days and just when we’d think it was over, triple the normal amount would descend upon us. We survived the battle and won the war, but at what cost… AT WHAT COST?

The never-ending Battle of Hammond will not be forgotten.

The Lyra’s Song Excursion: 19th October – December 6th 3309

The Lyra’s Song Excursion was created by CMDR Alexxxa and CMDR Hatch to get Endurance Exploration to the top of the squadron leaderboard for exploration. The highest previous position the squadron had been in had been within the top ten and the excursion was planned to make the most of the eight-week window to earn as many exploration points as possible. In the end, the squadron excelled at exploring and secured first place winning the gold bobblehead for exploration and a place in the hall of fame.

At the end of the Excursion CMDR Alexxxa posted the following on the squadron discord:

The Lyra’s Song Excursion has now come to an end and I hope everyone who took part has had an enjoyable time. When we started planning the excursion, there was one major goal in mind – to try and win a bobblehead from the squadron ranking for exploration. Despite its young age, Endurance Exploration had yet to finish higher than 7th for any season. For a squadron with ‘exploration’ in the name, this had to change.

Lyra’s Song became a good choice of destination because it wasn’t over-saturated with traffic, giving it the potential to reap plenty of credits for everyone while making some new discoveries and learning a little more about exploration. The results have been extraordinary. Your efforts didn’t just put ENEX in the Top 3. They smashed every hope and expectation we had. All squadron members, whether on the excursion, exploring somewhere else or just honking Bubble systems and selling that data. You have propelled us to a points level we could only have dreamt of achieving at the start of the season.

We ended with 17,406,191,438 points. That’s 34,812,382,876 credits of exploration data. You have done a fantastic job, Every single one of you deserves the biggest o7 possible.
